Santorini Sunrise Stories
Goooooood morning, Santorini
In the early morning, away from the calm of Santorini’s moonlit whitewashed buildings and winding pathways, beyond the jagged lines of volcanic islands in the distance, the sun makes its magical entrance. And while sunrise is special anywhere, here, at the very edge of the Aegean Sea, it’s quite spectacular.
As dawn breaks and the sun casts its pink and purple hues over the island, when most other people would rather be sleeping, you’ll be there in a prime spot to capture the views, rock formations and stunning architecture on camera. Taking one shot after another to tell your story of the best sunrise in the world.
Explore Santorini at first light
Much like the early bird catches the worm, the early photographer catches the sunrise. So we start this two hour workshop before dawn. You’ll be picked up while the moon is still bright and the sun is just thinking about rising. From there, we’ll head to the highest point on the island and set up our cameras to experience the panoramic views of Santorini at first light, before moving on to another location for beautiful early morning shots of the island.
It’s a chance to explore Santorini at a time of day most travellers never see and develop your passion for photography by capturing extraordinary landscapes most cameras never witness.
What you’ll learn
How to make the most of your camera without the direct glare of sunlight
How to use photography to tell stories
How to create stunning landscape photography compositions
How to develop your own style of landscape photography by experimenting with lenses and techniques
Who is this workshop for?
Anyone with a love of landscape photography. And Santorini. And sunrises.
Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or someone who only dusts off their camera for special occasions (this is a special occasion), if you have a basic knowledge of your camera and enjoy learning, this workshop is perfect for you.
What do I need?
A set of lenses. Any lenses are fine, but it’s good to have a wide-angle lens or a fixed lens
A tripod (we can provide one if you don’t have your own)
Spare batteries (we’ll be working that camera hard)
Extra memory cards
A passion for photography
A creative nature
An alarm clock (you don’t want to sleep in)
Who’s running the workshop?
Me, Konstantina. I’ll be your host, guide, teacher and (as it’s an early start) perhaps the very first person you see on the day.
I’ve lived on Santorini Island since 2012 and spend the majority of my time travelling around the island taking photos, both professionally and just for the fun of it. It’s meant I’ve been able to pick up all kinds of local knowledge (useful for a host) and find the best spots for capturing stunning early morning photos (essential for a photography workshop). And let me tell you, having seen many a Santorini sunrise, they never fail to deliver. Each one is more stunning than the last.
As for my teaching credentials, I’m a graduate of Leica Academy Creative Photography in Athens and a specialist in landscape photography.
I created K.Yellow Photography in 2015 to help people tell stories and create meaningful experiences through photography, by capturing cities and landscapes in creative ways.
Through the workshops and expeditions, I’ve been lucky enough to have helped hundreds of photographers develop their passion for landscape photography at Santorini’s most picturesque locations. I’m looking forward to doing the same with you. :-)
